Becky's Love of Social
My interest in social media began when I was in college and Facebook was the easiest way to keep in touch with all of my friends and to share pictures. My love of social media, however, really developed when I started seeing its application in the business world upon entering the workforce.
The best thing about social media in my mind is that the various platforms provide a direct line of communication from businesses and brands to their audiences and customers (and vice-versa), eliminating the middleman so-to-speak. Social media really provides a way to humanize brands and make them more relatable.
I grew up in Simsbury, CT graduating high school in 2006, then attended and graduated from Roger Williams University in 2010. In college I developed an interest in the "newest craze" - social media - in the form of Facebook and Twitter, as I majored in Communications and Public Relations.
After graduation I interned then worked for a Wedding and Event Production company in Barrington, RI, serving as an Event Production Assistant and Social Media Community Manager. It was here that I realized my love for social and digital media and the impact it could have for business.
In the fall of 2011 I moved to Boston to start my career in the Financial District at Weber Shandwick, Global Communications Agency. I joined the Digital Team as Digital Account Coordinator and Community Manager and I got my real start in the corporate Digital world here. At Weber I served as a website Content Manager and learned to oversee and maintain social media channels for a multitude of world-class brands that I held in high regard.
In the winter of 2014 I made a move to Elevate Communications in Boston's Back Bay where I served as Account Executive of Social Media and Analytics, and worked my way up to Senior Account Executive. I had a great opportunity to hone my analytical skills at Elevate by working on client accounts needing in-depth analysis reports, and had the good fortune of working on many large scale Digital Media events in the city. I gained some incredible hands-on experience here with big names in the sports world.
In the summer of 2015 I joined the fabulous team at Lois Paul and Partners, Healthcare and Technology PR Agency, as Senior Digital Strategist. At LPP I built on my previous agency experience by managing and determining the overarching organic and paid social media strategies for our clients, and learned to develop a holistic view of both successes and short-comings. I truly learned the necessity of social media measurement and how to thrive in the pay-to-play world of today.
In the spring of 2017 I moved away from agency life and stepped into the role of Director of Digital Strategy at tCognition Inc., Global IT firm in Boston's Newmarket District. At tCognition I led the social and digital media charge for the 14-year-old company that had a real "start-up" feel. My entrepreneurial spark was ignited during my tenure there and my vision for one day creating my own consulting business took form.
After close to eight years of solid social and digital media industry experience, I embarked on a new journey and launched Mariano Media in 2018!
